After many years developing the play-based elements of our early childhood education programme in Kyaka II refugee settlement, Uganda, our team were delighted to be asked to contribute to the government’s new policy with suggestions on play-based learning.

As Children on the Edge steps back from work in Patna, we look back at the achievements made possible by our supporters and the foundation left for the local community. Since 2014, our Children on the Edge community has stood alongside one of the most marginalised groups in India - the Musahar Dalit community in Patna. Together, we have worked to address the systemic discrimination and poverty that have affected this community for generations, cutting its children off from education.

The theme of the 2026 International Women’s Day is ‘Give to Gain’. This is the simple idea that when we invest our effort into those around us, the whole community reaps the rewards. One woman who really shows us ‘Give to Gain’ in action is mother of eight, Furaha Zabayo.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of BBC Radio 4 listeners, we have raised over £50,000 for Rohingya refugee children in our 2025 Appeal, narrated by actress Susannah Fielding. These funds are already providing life-changing education for over 6,000 students in refugee classrooms, who are finally able to learn in their own language.
