Click here to provide emergency soap and food parcels to vulnerable families facing starvation in Bangladesh.
These are uncertain times for all of us. They are especially frightening for impoverished refugees and slum-dwelling families, who are nearly always the hardest hit people during crises such as these.
Lockdown means that millions of workers who rely on daily wages are unable to feed their families, and fear starvation even more than COVID-19. We’re working with our local partners on the ground in Bangladesh to provide essential soap and food parcels. There are 7,500 families in urgent need of emergency support in the areas where we run our slum schools for Rohingya refugees.
Basic supplies of soap, rice, lentils, oil, salt, onion and potatoes will help families survive lockdown. Without assistance, these families face stark choices on how to eat each day, leaving the door open for exploitation such as human-trafficking and child marriage.

Meet MaaliEight year old Maali lives with her grandmother in Cox's Bazar. Maali is a student at a learning centre supported by Children on the Edge.
They rely on income from selling vegetables. Maali's grandmother grows vegetables near to their home and Maali sells them at the market in the mornings. Because of the lockdown, they are unable to go to the market and sell vegetables. |
Flexible learning for slum dwelling childrenTogether with our partner Mukti, we deliver a quality curriculum in colourful classrooms for slum dwelling children who cannot access mainstream education. Teachers are trained from within the communities and flexibly-timed classes enable access for working children.
