HOW IT WORKS
By taking part in the UK Uganda Ultra, you can raise money to support some of the most vulnerable and marginalised communities around the world. Track your kilometres - together we want to travel 9,945km - from our offices in the UK to Jinja, Uganda. It’s up to you how you travel and whether you want to get outside or use an exercise bike or treadmill inside. Take the whole summer, a month, a couple of weekends or take on a marathon in a day! There's no minimum sponsorship but every single pound raised helps. For example, £20 can feed a family of four for three weeks. £259 might be a good target to start with, but aim as high as you can. |
HELP CHILDREN LIVING ON THE EDGE
The full impact of coronavirus on the most vulnerable and poor communities is still unknown. By taking part in the UK Uganda Ultra, you will be helping children facing multiple uncertainties and challenges. Children and vulnerable families living in the refugee camps and slum communities where Children on the Edge work, are vulnerable to rapid viral spread in cramped, unsanitary conditions, with little to no medical support. Basic prevention methods such as social distancing are virtually impossible and many of the poorest people lack access to television, phones or the internet to receive public health messages. Families already living in poverty are facing starvation. Your support means that Children on the Edge can continue to respond where possible; educating communities about the importance of hand washing and delivering essential food and soap to grandparent headed households in Ugandan slums and refugee camps. Children on the Edge's learning centres provide vital support for the very youngest children under 5 in slums and refugee camps. It may be months before these centres can fully open, and in the meantime your support means these vulnerable children will continue to get support from Children on the Edge's local teachers and Child Protection teams, ensuring children are safe, and are helped to keep learning at home. Every £250 you raise will help Children on the Edge respond through this pandemic, helping communities in Uganda and India facing starvation and helping ensure local teachers and local Child Protection Teams continue to support the most vulnerable children. |
