SUPPORT UKRAINIAN REFUGEE FAMILIES IN MOLDOVA & ROMANIA

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have been fleeing the Russian invasion in their country and crossing the borders into Romania and Moldova where our local partner organisations are providing food, clothing and shelter.

With more refugees expected, they need urgent funds to help support more families.

Please donate today and support Ukrainian refugee families.

REFUGEE FAMILIES NEED URGENT HELP

Countries across Europe are hosting refugees fleeing the Russian invasion in Ukraine. The UN estimates that more than 5 million refugees have left the country since the conflict began, a number that will keep increasing as Russian forces continue in their attempts to overthrow the democratically elected government in Kyiv, and seize control of a number of Ukrainian cities.

Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians have been crossing the borders into Romania and Moldova where Children on the Edge worked closely with local partner organisations between 1990 to 2012.

Our relationships with these partner organisations remain strong to this day and we are supporting them as they respond to the crisis on the ground, which is changing rapidly. They need the resources to quickly identify and respond to the needs of Ukrainian refugees as they arise day by day. They need support to cover the naturally emerging gaps left by the broader sweep of the international aid effort.

WHERE WILL YOUR MONEY BE SPENT?

Your money will help support refugees arriving in Moldova and Romania with accommodation, food and essential supplies.
In Moldova we are supporting our partners to provide three transit centres for refugees. These include a two-house transit centre in Tudora - on the border of Odessa, 25 beds at the Speranta centre in Chișinău, and a larger local hub with over 180 spaces, further inland in Vatici. All three centres are linked up, with transport provided where necessary between them as refugees travel through the country.

In Romania,
we have set up a dedicated, flexible emergency fund so our partners can respond to the needs of the most marginalised refugees as they emerge. This emergency fund is already being put into action to fill the gaps emerging in the aid effort.

ARE YOU COLLECTING DONATIONS OF ITEMS?

We are not collecting donations of clothes, blankets, medical supplies and so on for Ukrainian refugees. The approach we take in all our projects around the world is to partner with local organisations, so the most cost effective and sustainable way to provide what is needed is to source materials within each country where we work.

We believe that donating money to trusted organisations, like us, who have experience of working with refugees in crisis situations, is the best way to support Ukrainian refugees. Financial donations enable charities and organisations to react quickly and spend money where the need is greatest.

You can find out more about our advice on providing financial support instead of ‘stuff’ by reading our blog post here.
