My name is Pande Shafic and I’m 16 years old. I live in Masese I community and I’m the chairperson of the Masese 1 Child Rights Club. I’m responsible for leading and guiding the team.
I wanted to join the Child Rights Club as I saw many children in my neighbourhood suffering and being subjected to child abuse. Many children have begun to get involved with bad peer groups, and I’d like to support them. I want the Child Rights Club to show parents how getting involved with these groups can negatively impact our community so we can try and change things.
I love seeing the changes in my community as a result of the Child Rights Club and I’m pleased that people now approach me if they have a problem.
Being the Chairperson of the Child Rights Club helps me sharpen my leadership skills and I look forward to improving my skills each week. When I succeed in my endeavours, this makes me happy.
Those who support Children on the Edge Africa should know that we love them and we are planning some songs and drama to show how much we appreciate them.

Throughout 2022, Shafic will be telling us what’s happening in his community in Uganda and about the issues that matter to him.
We'll hear more about what he's doing to make the changes he wants to see in Masese 1. Watch his first video update about to hear Shafic tell us a bit more about him and what he's been up to recently, including how his Child Rights Club has changed a lot in his village. |

WHAT IS A CHILD RIGHTS CLUB?
In Uganda, Children on the Edge support three Child Rights Clubs in Uganda - in Loco, Wandago and Masese 1. These clubs empower children to change their communities for the better.
Child Rights Clubs are given regular workshops on rights, responsibilities, how to work hand-in-hand with local Child Protection Teams and how to prevent instances of child labour, exploitation and abuse. They then take their training out to a wider audience of children in their communities. |
