Children on the Edge works to create conditions in which every marginalised child can flourish and thrive no matter where they live and irrespective of the challenging circumstances they face.

We identify children in some of the world’s toughest situations and work alongside local communities to co-create protective environments, so marginalised children can safely live, learn, play and grow.

This year, we reached more children than ever before, and saw three of our models of education and child protection replicated to new places, bringing sustainable change on a wider scale.

Across all of our programmes around the world we work with trusted local partners, who know the areas and the communities we support. In Romania, we are working alongside our partners Asociatia Aproape De Oameni (ADO) to support Ukrainian refugees in the city of Iasi.
Whilst this is a newer programme, set up in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Children on the Edge has a long history working both in Romania, and with Marius Aonicesei who is the Director of ADO. We spoke to Marius to find out more about his connection with Children on the Edge, his work with ADO, and the challenges facing Ukrainian refugees in Romania, 15 months after the war first started.

We’ve just kicked off our brand new virtual challenge - Summer Steps for Refugees - but as we step into July, we wanted to look back and share some of the stories and achievements from last month.

Read on to find out about the resilience of the Nagarpur community as they rallied together to build a temporary learning centre after the area was bulldozed, Harley’s brilliant banana fundraiser and how cluster learners in Kyaka II are thriving at primary school.
