February might be the shortest month, but it didn’t deter any of our fantastic fundraisers. We kicked off the month with our brand new virtual event - The Puppy Power Walk but it wasn’t just the pups who were fundraising in February.
Read on to find out about eight-year-old Issac’s reading challenge, Mari-Louisa’s 20 hour trek and Helena and Laura’s Big Body Shop Bash… Our first inspirational conference of 2023 kickstarted the new year with our incredible partners at The Body Shop at Home. More than 1,000 people gathered in Telford, and thousands more watched online to celebrate this incredible change-making business, which has been a force for good for decades ever since the late Dame Anita Roddick founded the business.
When Suzi Russell and her daughter Primrose grew a huge ‘Cinderella’ pumpkin on their farm near Lowestoft, they thought it would be a fantastic way to raise money and support Children on the Edge, they certainly didn’t expect that the pumpkin would become a local talking point and feature in the news.
Suzi, who is a Body Shop at Home Consultant, together with 5-year-old Primrose, grew the enormous pumpkin and auctioned it off to the highest bidder to raise funds to support Children on the Edge. This could have been the end of a lovely story but this pumpkin tale doesn’t end here… As we approach what would have been the late Dame Anita Roddick's 80th birthday, we take a look back at our history and what sparked Anita and her company, The Body Shop to co-found Children on the Edge in 1990. Rachel Bentley, our CEO talks about Anita in those early days, describing how The Body Shop and Children on the Edge are still working to create brighter futures for children around the world to this day.
Children on the Edge is delighted to be partnering with The Body Shop this festive season. Every time you buy a gift from The Body Shop, (in-store, online or from your local Body Shop at Home consultants) you’ll be creating brighter futures for refugee children around the globe. This Christmas The Body Shop will be donating to Children on the Edge from the sale of every pre-filled gift, hoping to raise up to £100,000. This support will help to fund over 195,000 days of education for refugee children across Uganda, Bangladesh and Lebanon.
On Wednesday 28th September, we were invited to a slightly different kind of event - the big reopening of The Body Shop Westfield’s Stratford City store. Fundraising Officer Charlotte Callin was one of the first people to see the newly revamped store in the shopping centre and was to have a sneak peak of all of the new areas including the fantastic refill stations and the pamper area, where customers are able to chat to staff and sample some of the brilliant products. She was especially impressed when the staff told her that all of the new fixtures and fittings in the store are made from upcycled, recycled and sustainable materials.
It was fantastic to see so many of our young supporters getting involved and fundraising for us in February. Walking, cycling and colouring to help make a difference. Take a look at some of the fantastic fundraising that took place in February …
Here’s a round up of our fundraising news from January - thank you to all our supporters for their passion and enthusiasm for Children on the Edge - it makes such a huge difference.
Take a look at what they’ve been up to… The Body Shop At Home and Children on the Edge: Kickstarting A Year of Learning for Refugee Children24/1/2022
The Body Shop At Home has been a passionate supporter of Children on the Edge for over two decades and earlier this month; we gathered with them online at the Global Kickstart Conference with the theme ‘The Power of Us’.
We were honoured to be able to share with thousands of The Body Shop At Home consultants, more about our work with refugee children. We talked about why providing education to the youngest children who have fled conflict and violence can transform lives and create powerful change. We also shared how in 2022 we want to kickstart a year of learning for refugee children; with the support of The Body Shop At Home. |
