Back in March we launched a new virtual challenge for spring: ‘Walk 100 miles in April’. Like our previous virtual challenges, we wanted this to be flexible so that anyone could take part, no matter their location, level of fitness or age and we were delighted when over 200 people signed up.
Children took part with their families, groups of friends walked together and lots of four-legged friends joined in with their owners. The challenge even went overseas, with people chalking up miles in Gran Canaria, Seville and Florida!
Over the course of the challenge we kept in touch with our fantastic team of walkers through our ‘Walk 100 miles in April’ Facebook group. It was a brilliant space, where we shared challenge updates and news through weekly live videos and posts. It was also a place where our walkers could share their progress, tell us about their highlights and, most importantly, give encouragement to each other. There was a real community feel and we loved seeing how the team helped to motivate each other.
Not only did our Walk 100 miles team cover more than 20,000 miles together during the challenge, they also raised over £6,500 to help support our work with refugees in Bangladesh, Lebanon, Uganda and our current response with Ukrainian refugees in Moldova and Romania
Fundraising Officer, Annie Whillians said, “We want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who took part in our April Challenge. It was fantastic to be part of such a brilliant community who all came together, supporting and motivating each other to help make a difference. We can’t wait to launch our next virtual challenge later on in the year.”
“I'm going to miss this challenge, loved it so much. It's helped me both physically and mentally. I will keep walking!”
