33 Art Sale to raise funds for Children on the Edge

1/4/2019

Local art sale at Bordean House, Langrish (Petersfield) to raise funds for Children on the Edge.

When: Thursday 13 June, 6-9pm
Where: Bordean House, Langrish (Petersfield, Hampshire), GU32 1EP

33 Art Sale is the brain child of Emma Thistleton, a well-known London based artist. Her vision was to bring together some of the best local, national and international established and up-and-coming artists for an art sale.

The art sale is unique in that it takes place in a private home. It raises money for two charities that are very close to Emma’s heart – with 33% of every piece sold going to Children on the Edge and the Rural Refugee Network.

Emma wanted to make something in response to the two charities that would be affordable for all. She discovered 'Sticky Toffee Chic' and instantly fell in love with her brilliant bags and pouches and has bought many of them! Angela, the maker, then went to Emma's 'Open Studios' and bought one of her illustrations. They decided on that first meeting that they would collaborate, and producing something for the 33 Art Sale turned out to be the perfect place to start.

Emma has designed two fabrics, one for the Rural Refugee Network and one for Children on the Edge and Angela has made them into a selection of items. Like wash bags and coin purses.
Emma designed an ice cream fabric for Children on the Edge. This was inspired from her time working for The Body Shop. She said that she remembers Anita Roddick telling them all how her parents - who were Jewish Italian immigrants - used to sell proper Italian ice cream on the beach at Littlehampton to make money. The fabric has been made into washbags and coin purses.

Emma said: "how perfect is it that when you buy one of these it will make a difference to a child somewhere?".

For the Rural Refugee Network (a charity that settles Syrian refugees in rural areas) she has designed a fabric based on Jasmine Flowers, which are the unofficial Syrian National Flower. It stands for love and represents appreciation and good luck, a perfect fit! Angela has made beautiful pouches that can be used as a make-up bag, pencil case or evening bag, as well as a very practical glasses case, which is lined with a super soft fabric to take good care of your specs.
Every item is made with care, attention to detail and a smile and they are all under £20.

If you are local to Petersfield, Hampshire, do pop along to the 33 Art Sale on Thursday 13th June, from 6-9pm. You can follow them on Instagram here.
