February Fundraising Highlights from Children on the Edge

Feb 2023 Fundraising Highlights from COTE
February might be the shortest month, but it didn’t deter any of our fantastic fundraisers. We kicked off the month with our brand new virtual event - The Puppy Power Walk but it wasn’t just the pups who were fundraising in February.

Read on to find out about eight-year-old Issac’s reading challenge, Mari-Louisa’s 20 hour trek and Helena and Laura’s Big Body Shop Bash…
Issac smashes his reading challenge target
When eight-year-old Issac Watson made friends with some Ukrainian children who had recently joined his class at school he decided to do something to help more Ukrainian children, like his new friends.
He set himself a target to raise £100 in a month, and for each pound raised he decided to read a chapter of his book.

When we spoke to Issac’s mum Claire earlier in the month she told us:
“So far he has accomplished 10 chapters. The chapters may take longer to read depending on how much he raises.”

Since then Issac has smashed his target, raising £115 so far, and he’s still reading, keeping track of all of the chapters he’s completing.

Mari-Louisa, Christine and Sarah take on the RoundHay 50

On the 18th February Mari-Louisa, Christine and Sarah set off on the RoundHay 50 -  a 50 mile rural trek around Leeds organised by The Long Distance Walkers Association. Body Shop at Home Consultant Mari-Louisa has supported Children on the Edge for many years, but said this was the toughest challenge that she’s taken on so far.
“The RoundHay50 challenge started at 8am and we hiked day and night with the challenge taking around 20 hours to complete.

It was the hardest challenge I’ve taken on, I have never had so many emotions at once, especially half way through when fatigue kicked in.

Knowing it was for Children on the Edge kept us going, the camaraderie, laughter and tears we all shared together helped us navigate to hit checkpoints. The scenery was amazing and I met so many fabulous people along the way.”

Mari-Louisa, Christine and Sarah completed the RoundHay 50, raising an impressive £385. Mari-Louisa summed up the challenge saying: “The RoundHay 50 was hard but we would all do it again in a heartbeat.Thank you to my employer Spectrum who supported the challenge and made a donation.”

On the 25th February, Helena Fisher and Laura Wright from Carlise held their very own ‘Big Body Shop Bash’.

The two Body Shop at Home Consultants held the event to showcase their products and tell their friends and families about the work of Children on the Edge.

Their guests enjoyed a glass of fizz, along with games, live product demonstrations and a fantastic raffle.
Laura said, “Myself and Helena wanted to go outside our comfort zones and do something a little different. We made a plan of what we thought people would enjoy and loved seeing people ranging from age 9 to 79 joining in the experience. The hardest part for me was getting up and speaking in front of people I had never met. My advice to anyone thinking of holding an event would be to stop thinking and just go for it! We can't wait to do it again”.

Helena and Laura’s Big Body Shop Bash was a huge success, everyone enjoyed the event and they raised a fantastic £230 for Children on the Edge.
