Fishbourne Primary School show their support for refugees with an incredible year of fundraising.

An assembly at Fishbourne primary School
Fishbourne Primary School’s philosophy is “There is only one you in this great big world … make it a better place”, and students from the school have certainly been doing just that, raising over £1,250 for Children on the Edge and Sanctuary in Chichester. Their amazing fundraising will help refugee children both overseas and locally in the Chichester area.
When the new school term began in 2021, Fishbourne Primary students spent some time learning about the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, and reflecting on the lives of refugees. The children decided as a school community that they wanted to take action to help improve the lives of refugee children.

Children on the Edge Fundraising Officer Annie Whillians was invited to meet the children at a special assembly and to talk about the charity’s work with refugee children in Bangladesh, Lebanon, Moldova, Romania and Uganda.

After meeting Annie and hearing about Children on the Edge, the children were spurred into action and there was no shortage of ideas about how they could help.

During the spring term the school was abuzz with fundraising activities from bake sales and arts sales to ping pong challenges and a much enjoyed ‘bend the rules’ day.

Annie said, “It has been fantastic working alongside children at Fishbourne Primary School. It was a pleasure to support their fundraising efforts throughout the school year and see them raise such an incredible amount of money to support our work and the work of Sanctuary in Chichester. We are so grateful to all of the students, teachers and school staff for their amazing school spirit and support this year.”
