May 2022 Fundraising Highlights
In May, our fantastic fundraisers were out in force to help make a difference and support Children on the Edge. There were South Down treks, 5km runs, a  marvellous musical performance and Charlotte from our fundraising team channelled her inner Paul Hollywood to judge a bake off competition.

Take a look at some of our favourite fundraisers this month…

Pupils from Westbourne House School walked 19 miles to support Ukrainian Refugees
On Sunday 1st May a group of pupils from Westbourne House School, along with their families and former pupils, embarked on a 19 mile walk across the Sussex Downs to support our Ukraine Appeal. The children aged between 10 and 14 were inspired by the courage of Ukrainian refugees and felt they wanted to show solidarity with the many children that have walked away from the chaos created by this horrendous conflict, showing such resilience and strength. Together, the group raised more than £11,300!

The Great Pirbright Bake Off
At the end of April, The Pirbright Institute organised a bake off competition, inviting Fundraising Officer Charlotte Callin was invited along to talk to their staff about Children on the Edge’s work with Dalit Communities in India. Along with the CEO of The Pirbright Institute, Professor Bryan Charleston, Charlotte was also asked to be one of the judges for the competition. They sampled some excellent cakes and the winning entry went to a particularly tasty gluten-free chocolate brownie. The cakes were then sold so everyone could have a taste. It was a brilliant day raising a fantastic £348.

Finley and Jensen ran 5km and raised £1,264!
Best friends Finley and Jenson decided together at school that they wanted to do something to raise money to support Ukrainian families, and chose to take part in a 5km run. The boys completed their 5km challenge along Worthing seafront, with their friends and family cheering them on. After completing their challenge, Finley and Jenson visited the Children on the Edge offices in Chichester to meet the team and tell them all about their challenge. The pair were incredibly conscientious and aware of the difficult situation for Ukrainian children fleeing their homes - we were blown away by their generosity and commitment to the cause.

A S Music School take to the stage to help make a difference
On May 8th the A S Music School held a special performance at The Greystones music venue in Sheffield to support our Ukraine Appeal. Staff and students played to a full house, with over 90 people in the audience, playing a variety of music including some well known covers. Teacher Anne Sheehan, told us “We’re all shocked and horrified at what’s happening in Ukraine and we were looking to help however we can. We like to take every opportunity to use music to make a difference.” The school has so far raised £380 to support our work in Moldova and Romania.

The Body Shop’s Head Office Football Fundraiser
We were delighted to be invited to a special football match on a sunny Wednesday evening, organised by the Head Franchise Team at The Body Shop. ‘Head Office’ team took on  the ‘Distribution Centre’ team in a head to head epic derby match, and after a tense 90 minutes the Distribution team took home the trophy. It was a fantastic event, raising over £xxx. Charlotte Callin said,  “Well done to both teams, and congratulations to the Distribution team for their win!  It was fantastic to be part of such a wonderful evening of fundraising from all the incredible Body Shop staff and their families."
