It’s been an exciting day joining our partners The Body Shop at Home for their Global Kickstart Conference to launch 2021. As well as looking forward it was a moment to say thank you for such an unexpected and record breaking year of fundraising for Children on the Edge. We could never have known just how challenging a year 2020 would be when we last met with thousands of consultants in February, and yet you have risen to every challenge and created incredible moments of change for Children on the Edge. We are so grateful to every single consultant and customer from The Body Shop at Home that has been part of raising £883,702 for Children on the Edge during 2020. This has been a record breaking year through extraordinary times. In particular, The Body Shop at Home’s team of dedicated Ambassadors have championed the charity and inspired creative and generous fundraising week in week out. They have pivoted all their plans for fundraising; created instead online quizzes, virtual walking challenges and sold over 200,000 hand creams that have each donated £1 to Children on the Edge. Business with this level of heart and compassion really can be a positive force for good. Children on the Edge was sparked into life in 1990 by the founder of The Body Shop, Dame Anita Roddick. The Body Shop at Home has continued to partner with Children on the Edge for 26 years, raising more and more each year, ensuring that safe, protective spaces are created where children are living on the edge. Through 2020 this incredible outpouring of support from The Body Shop at Home has enabled more than 8,000 children to continue to learn in the toughest circumstances. It has helped provide distanced lessons over radiowaves in locked-down Ugandan refugee camps and helped teachers in India to create digital lessons via mobile phones for Dalit children. “30 years ago, along with Anita Roddick, our co-founder and CEO Rachel Bentley visited Romania to help institutionalised children left in orphanages from the brutal Ceausescu regime. This trip marked the very beginning of Children on the Edge. We are so thankful to mark our 30th year with such a phenomenal team of supporters in The Body Shop at Home, raising a game changing £833,702” Ben Wilkes, Children on the Edge COO. If you can all be this creative and generous in 2020 we just can’t wait to see what you can do in 2021.
